"If we hope to preserve our way of life, the first thing we must do is rediscover our respect for the land, the water and the entire natural world. And if we do manage to regain that respect, then we must make sure that human beings never lose it again." - Lois Hole
The Wilderness Centre
The Wilderness Centre is located on nearly 70 acres of land near Sandy Beach, Alberta. The centre includes several vegetable gardens, an orchard, lake and marsh, forested areas, composting, solar power, an outdoor kitchen, pop-up playground, mud kitchen, outdoor classroom, 3 yurts with a wood stove and access to multiple forms of physical activities. The space is focused on constructivist learning and "exposure to the natural world (which) shapes environmental values and puts science (and all subject areas) into context" (Blair, 2009).
