GO3: Manage ideas and information
Objective:
Students will observe a variety of nests and eggs. They will then record a list of questions they have regarding these items. This will lead to an inquiry research project and future presentation.
Materials:
bird nests
wasp nests
weasel nest
robin eggs
duck eggs
books
booklet
pencils
blankets
sticky notes
Lesson:
This lesson will be conducted in the outdoor classroom at Wilderness School. Students will have benches and blankets where they can sit. A variety of nests and eggs will be passed around for students to observe. Groups will have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts about the artifacts.
Students will record questions related to what they would like to know about these artifacts. The teacher will model the process and illustrate how to formulate effective questions that lead to in depth responses, not yes or no.
Students may begin to research their questions using the books and resources available.
Upon returning to school, students will complete their research and present to the class.
